First Pumpkin
10 30th, 2008

This year I purchased my first pumpkin. Sure, I’ve had pumpkins before, but I had never bought one until a few weeks ago. Yesterday, I put knife to gord and made my first pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern. This is the first pumpkin I’ve carved in years… Here it is

Twitter Experiment
08 16th, 2008

Most people have heard about twitter. I don’t really get it, but I’ve heard pundit after pundit extolling on its virtues for networking and getting access to the vast experience and intelligence of your contacts.

Like a good scientist, I’m going to do an experiment. I encourage anyone who knows me (or would like to) to participate. I’ll be ‘tweeting’ over the next few weeks, trying to find followers, and trying to find other people to follow. If you don’t have a twitter account, get one, let me know, and we’ll do the experiment together. If you have an account and want me to follow you then contact me or post a comment and let me know. If you want to follow me, my username is shawnlankton.

Oh the things we do to stay relevant in these turbulent technological times.

Ice Climbing in Alaska
06 29th, 2008

In addition to work and science, last week I spent some time ascending ice in Alaska! Rome and I rented a car and drove north from Anchorage to the Matanuska Glacier [map]. There we met our guide, got geared up, and headed into the white. It is amazing to see a 26 mile glacier snaking into the huge snow-capped mountains looming all around.

Ride or Die.
05 12th, 2008

I got my motorcycle license a few weeks ago. Now I’ve got a bike! My buddy Ian let me take this sweet little Suzuki GS500 off his hands. With a new carb and a little bit of work its running pretty well, and I’ve been zipping around town on it!

GS500

I must say that I’m addicted to riding it! Since Jon and I got it working, I haven’t started my car : )

I plan to do a bit more engine work and make some cosmetic upgrades too. If there are any other new GS owners out there, make sure to check out these sites for lots of good info:

Any other riders in ATL who want to meet up? Let me know!

Motorcycle School
04 15th, 2008

Last weekend, I spent all day Saturday and Sunday learning how to ride a motorcycle! I went to the American Honda Driver Education Center where they provide bikes, helmets, and instruction. I got to ride a sweet little Honda, and I must say: I’m pretty hooked on the feeling.

We practiced everything from fast turns to hard stops to the basics of shifting and driving. All that’s left to do is ride (on my bicycle) down to the DMV, get a little ‘M’ on my license, and of course… buy a motorcycle! Anybody have a nice one for sale?

Pictures from the No-No
03 10th, 2008

I’ve been living in Atlanta for years and years now, and the city holds a special place in my heart. I went out yesterday to take some pictures in my neighborhood, the “No-No” district. This is the area just North of North Ave. on the South side of Midtown. “No-No” is my little joke since my hood is just North of the area city marketeers are now referring to as “So-No” (South of North). Atlanta is starting to feel more like London and New York already!

Enjoy, and let me know what you think!

Freestyle Walking Video
11 17th, 2007

I’ve had this video around for years. In 2001 my buddies Jon, Ryan, Nick, and Corner got together and made this 5 minute short for a contest called iMovie Fest at Georgia Tech. We made the video in one evening (plus an all-nighter editing). When we got the call to “make sure we would be at the awards ceremony” we stated with calm indifference, “nice… we must have won first place.”

We showed up to the event wearing black suits and sneakers. This was a college freshmen event, so the rest of the attendance was wearing t-shirts and jeans. We sat in the front row like a bunch of VIP bad-asses. (At this point we weren’t really sure we had won, despite our apparent confidence). When our video came on as the first place video… it made the victory oh so sweet. We even scored $1,000 in prize money!

Soooo, Here’s the video:

Let me know what you think! Also, if you prefer YouTube, you can get Freestyle Walking there too.

Color me ENTPJ
09 18th, 2007

I took a Myers-Briggs test today during my business class today. My score? E(29), N(25), T(23), P/J(20)

I —————|—- E
N ——-|———— S
T ——–|———– F
P ———-|———- J

This means that I’m Extroverted, INtuitive, Thinking, and a perfect split between Perceiving and Judging. They usually group these in terms of certain complementary groups. I’m in the NT group. Therefore, my personality is split between ENTP, “The Visionary,” and ENTJ, “The Executive.” I’m pretty psyched about that! Here’s an online version of the test (although not the same one I took) if you’re interested to find out what you are.

In fact, after a quick internet search, its hard to find a good version of this test online… maybe I’ll put one up!

Florida Vacation
08 2nd, 2007

Last weekend, I spent some time in my hometown of Gulf Breeze, Florida with my dear, sweet, mom and my little sister. There were some lazy days by the pool, and by the beach… lots of napping, and some kayaking.

A few more pictures follow for anyone who is interested.

Moved In
07 24th, 2007

Well folks, I am officially moved into my new place. I’m breathing, sleeping, and eating the solo-living lifestyle. The place is still a mess right now, but I’ll be cleaning and organizing frequently until I’m settled. I’ll post some pictures this evening when I get back to my sweet new place.
